We Need Drastic Reforms to Save American Voting and Elections

We need to do something drastic to reform the way elections are done if we want to save democracy and America. Most Americans, including most Democrats', most independents, and millions of Republicans do not believe there was fraud in the 2020 election because not one single court verdict or rulling, audit, or recount, and not one Dept of Justice or any law enforcement investigation has found any evidence that there was. Millions of Americans believe that vote by mail is an excellent way to run elections.

Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and non-voters need to support drastic election reform before 2024 in order to Save America Together. If we don't, our children may tell their children about the "Former United States" and tell stores about what happened when the USA broke apart.

Trump's Big Lie is destroying faith in elections and Democracy in America, even though there is no evidence to back it up. No matter what happens his paid staff and those who owe him loyalty for their careers will say they were cheated, and sadly millions of mostly Trump supporters will believe them. But the real question is what will everyone else say? Those who believe Trump's lie that the election was stolen only make up 60% of Republicans; 30% of voters, but only 15% of all Americans. What will the 85% of Americans who have not bought into the conspiracy theory think, say, and do when the Trump people cry fowl if they were to lose again in 2024.

On the other side, Democrats complain that the integrity of elections is being destroyed by Republican state legislatures who are making it harder to vote by reducing early voting, reducing polling places, and tightening voter ID rules. So much so that the federal DoJ is suing several states

eral states over this. If we want to Save American Voting and Elections, we must take drastic action now to restore and instill confidence among all Americans if we want any chance of keeping our democracy and ultimately our nation. We propose a grand bargain that addresses the biggest concerns of each side. We suggest calling it the Save American Voting and Elections Act or the Save America Act for short. A grand bargain where Democrats would get automatic voter registration, greatly expanded early voting to eliminate long lines at too few and inconvenient polling places, and having ballots mailed to every voter so they can vote at home, while at the same time giving Republicans laws requiring ID to vote & the elimination of vote by mail which they (mistakenly) believe fosters fraud, more secured and video taped processing of paper ballots, and built in audits for tallys, voter IDs, hand and machine recounts, and to check for counterfeit ballots. How? Motor Voter Automatic Universal voter registration, mail ballots to all voters registered addresses, let voters fill out their ballots at home, but then require them to bring their ballots in to voting locations that are open for 4 weeks rather than 1 day, and require voters to show ID when they turn in their ballots where a photo is taking of the voter, the ID, and the ballot out envelope, where dual custody and video taped counting and processing occurs, and where audits are built into the process. This may not, and probably wont, satisfy those who believe Trump's Big Lie now despite all the evidence, but we hope it will be enough to get us through the 2024 elections. We encourage Americans across the political spectrum to start pressuring their state legislatures and members of Congress to support this bi-partisan proposal or something else that will restore confidence in electoral integrity and access.

The Proposal:

  1. Motor Voter automatic voter registration where citizens could automatically register to vote when they get their drivers license.

  2. Ballots are mailed out automatically to all voters. Voters can research and complete ballots at home.

  3. There should be 4 weeks of early voting at libraries, city, county, and state offices, to turn in ballots and avoid election day lines.

  4. Voters must show their identification when they turn in their ballot in person.

  5. Parties, campaigns, government agencies, and non-profits can help voters get to ballot drop off locations.

  6. Funds will be made available for non-profits groups to help citizens get legitimate IDs if they do not have one.

  7. States must start with paper ballots that can be counted by machines and/or create digital copies of ballots, but they cannot have an electronic interface that creates a paper ballot on the voters behalf.

  8. States must do random signature audits, random tally accuracy audits, including audit paper ballots.

  9. If a voter is too ill to get to the polls, or if a public health emergency would reasonably keep people from being able to vote in person safely, like in a pandemic, an alternate process that still checks voter ID could be used.

    1. Ballots must have a voter's ID information printed on the ballot envelope.

    2. The Voter or someone else must take a photo of the voter, holding the ID and the sealed ballot envelope, clearly showing the sealed ballot enveloped tracker number with the voter ID information written it,

    3. That photo of the ballot, ID, and voter must be included with the ballot, possibly placed in a "ID pouch" much like the way a shipping label is attached to a Fed Ex envelope.

    4. When the ballot arrives at the county office, the ballot envelope would have the ID written on the ballot and the ID pouch would include a photo of that voter and ID and the election worker would check that the ballot tracking number was legit and that the ID was legit.
